Using advanced mathematics (such as the theory of conjectures or non-transitive preferential relations), models will be proposed where the optimal decision-making will faithfully simulate human, seemingly irrational behaviour. Models will be statistically verified on experimentally obtained data. The use of these models can significantly improve the quality of decision-making systems to support the assessment of threats and risks associated with the introduction of new technologies.

Obtaining and Modelling (Medical) Knowledge (ZIMOLEZ) 2C06019 30. 6. 2006 – 30. 6. 2011 Ministry of Youth, Education and Sports Prague University of Economics and Business, Faculty of Management
The aim of the project was to design and implement new methods for acquiring knowledge from a multi-modal health databases and interpreting them for management and diagnostics in health care. As part of the project, new procedures for creating knowledge models that are applicable to supporting decision making have been proposed and verified. The procedures were based on the use of non-trivial multidimensional statistical models. For the practical use of the models, the algorithmic solution of real tasks adapted to the requirements of medical practice was also designed and experimental software solutions were developed on which the proposed methods were verified.
Economically Optimal Processes on Networks P402/12/2147 1. 1. 2012 – 31. 12. 2014 Czech Science Foundation (GACR) Prague University of Economics and Business, Faculty of Management
The project focuses on basic research of models and methods for solving the theoretical problems of economic process optimization on networks. This concerns problems that have as yet gone unresolved, or where the known solution is not yet fully satisfactory. Their common feature is the effort to reduce costs to the minimum so as to maintain the required qualitative indicators of these process. However, an increase in quality is required to keep costs in exceptional cases. Specific problems relate to real networks such as transport or communication as well as abstract, ones expressing the processes of transitions between the states of a real system. Mathematical and theoretical-informational knowledge about networks and moving agents will be used and developed as part of their solution.
Methods of Supporting Managerial Decision-Making Based on Analysing Textual Information Sources P403/12/2175 1. 1. 2012 – 31. 12. 2014 Czech Science Foundation (GACR) Prague University of Economics and Business, Faculty of Management
At present, entrepreneurs and managers are exposed to a pervasive cloud of information. This naturally results in the growing importance of methods in the field of “business intelligence”. At present, however, methods that are difficult to handle are huge and unstructured data (text) sources such as the Internet, whose importance is growing today. In order to achieve the main goal of the project, it is necessary to find and verify sufficiently reliable methods enabling machines to find the context for each text document and thus for the multidimensional linguistic characteristic representing the content of the document. Multilingual resource-based approaches have been developed that do not depend on the language of the resource and do not require additional tools depending on the language used. The context is dynamic, so the classification of the document is not dependent only on the document under consideration but also on the corpus; extending the corpus can cause a change in the classification of the document.
Approaches for Identifying Business Performance Factors with an Emphasis on Symptom Selection Methods in Statistical Recognition P403/12/1557 1. 1. 2012 – 31. 12. 2014 Czech Science Foundation (GACR) Prague University of Economics and Business, Faculty of Management
The essence of the project is based on the hypothesis that business performance is influenced by a common (not a peculiar) effect of multiple factors. The methods that are currently applied to this type of task (for example, correlation, averaging or scattering, etc.) make the situation inappropriately simplified, in particular by limiting the number of variables examined (ie potential factors), the assumption of the a priori model contained in the data, and in particular non- complex interdependencies between variables. The proposed project wants to find a solution that overcomes the above simplifications. The result of the project is the theoretical and methodological elaboration of advanced methods for the selection of symptoms in statistical recognition in the field of business management theory, leading to the creation of a tool for recognizing the potential of enterprises to be efficient and competitive.
Causal Models to Support Managerial Decision-Making 15-00215S 1. 1. 2015 – 31. 12. 2017 Czech Science Foundation (GACR) Prague University of Economics and Business, Faculty of Management
The project is a follow-up of projects No. GACR403 / 12/2175 “Methods of Support for Managerial Decision-Making Based on the Analysis of Textual Information Sources” and ICC / 08 / E010 “Causal and Probability Reasoning for Uncertainty”. The research was focused on developing theoretical tools enabling the formal representation of managerial knowledge (both expert knowledge and knowledge gained from data through formal procedures) to improve the quality of managerial decision-making. Causal models capturing causal relationships were used for the innovations of the proposed approach i.e. models for assessing the effects of intended response based on the data collected before the intended response.
