The Faculty of Management Tested Its Preparedness for Emergency Situations During a Fire Safety Exercise

The Faculty of Management of the Prague University of Economics and Business organized a fire safety exercise on Thursday, 9 April 2026, in cooperation with the Fire Rescue Service of the South Bohemian Region. The aim of the exercise was not only to verify the preparedness of students and employees for crisis situations, but also to test the functionality of internal safety protocols. Around 200 people, including employees, students, and tenants of the premises, took part in the exercise.

The programme began with a short lecture delivered by members of the Fire Rescue Service, focusing on basic life-saving procedures. This was followed by the controlled exercise itself, simulating a fire in the faculty building, including smoke being released into selected areas of the building and a subsequent test of the fire detectors.

In addition to the independent evacuation of participants, a controlled emergency evacuation of pre-selected role players also took place, with their search and rescue forming part of the exercise. Four role players were escorted out by firefighters using breathing apparatus, one female role player was carried out of the building on a stretcher, and another four people were evacuated from a fifth-floor balcony using high-angle rescue equipment.

“Safety has long been one of our priorities. This exercise allowed us to verify not only the preparedness of all of us for such a situation, but also the functionality of our internal processes and cooperation with the integrated rescue system. Because we at a university know better than anyone that theory and real practice can sometimes differ significantly, we are pleased that we were able to organize this exercise and gain a clearer idea of what such an intervention looks like in reality,” said the Dean of the Faculty of Management, Prague University of Economics and Business, doc. Ing. Bc. Mojmír Sabolovič, Ph.D.

The exercise had been planned well in advance and was carried out fully under the supervision of the Fire Rescue Service. Thanks to the realistic scenario, participants were able to practically experience the correct evacuation procedures and appropriate behaviour in crisis situations. Traffic coordination was provided by officers of the Municipal Police of Jindřichův Hradec.

“Exercises like this are of fundamental importance not only for institutions themselves, but also for individuals. The correct response in the first minutes of an emergency can be decisive in protecting health and saving lives,” added representatives of the Fire Rescue Service.

After the exercise had concluded, participants were given a guided tour of the technical equipment and facilities of the fire station, offering insight into the work of firefighters and the rescue equipment they use.
