The name of the host university: Johannes Kepler Universitát Linz – Hauptbibliothek

The attitude of the university toward visiting academics
I chose the Johannes Kepler Universität Linz because I was looking for a similar size school to “ours” – the Prague University of Economics and Business. The advantage was that it is located only 140 km from Jindřichův Hradec. The train journey takes about three hours. Once I made the decision to take part in the Erasmus programme, I emailed the director and asked her if it would be possible for me to do a week of job shadowing in their main library. I received a positive response with a proposed deadline. In the draft contract with the host institution, I formulated my requirements for what I would like to learn during my stay. A week before my departure, I agreed the framework programme with the director and the timetable was finalised upon my arrival. I was very warmly received in the main library and was given a detailed plan, which workplace to visit and when, and the list of academics I was going to work with. Contact and cooperation with all colleagues were excellent. My colleagues in Linz really appreciated the fact that they could communicate with me in their native language.
Equipment (faculty / workplace)
The equipment at the school and the library is older than that at our Faculty of Management.
Transport
Transportation to Linz is comfortable and, in terms of time, comparable with a journey to Prague. Travelling in Linz is problem free.
Quality of accommodation
I was staying at the Sommerhaushotel Linz, which is situated about 10 minutes walk from the university. It was clean, quiet and good quality accommodation with breakfast included and at a very affordable price.
Attractiveness of the place (city)
Linz is a city of culture with an amazing Danubian atmosphere. It is a city of fascinating media arts, and as such, it was awarded the title UNESCO City of Media Arts.
Overall satisfaction
Main benefits of the trip in terms of personal development Familiarization with the new Alma library system, comparison of our services, educational activities and equipment in individual libraries, inspiration for further work, practising language skills, new contacts on both a professional and personal level.
